TelAve News/10905843
~ Tacoma, WA - The City of Tacoma has announced a partnership with two community-led litter cleanup groups, Litter Free 253 and Oscar's Enemies, for a Citywide Cleanup Event on Saturday, September 19. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon and volunteers can participate at various locations across the city.
The headline location for the event will be in Downtown Tacoma near the intersection of Commerce Street and Pacific Avenue. The City's Tidy-Up Tacoma crews will focus their efforts in the surrounding area between South 24th and 25th streets. In addition to litter pickup, the crews will also work on graffiti mitigation and installing new trash cans in the area. Volunteers are welcome to join this effort or choose from any of the other 13 sites around the city.
Mayor Anders Ibsen expressed his gratitude towards all the volunteers and City staff who have made this event possible. He stated, "We want a clean, beautiful Tacoma and this event helps make that possible."

District 1 Council Member John Hines highlighted how Tidy-Up Tacoma has always been about finding ways to partner with the community to prevent and pick up litter. He praised the hard work of volunteers who play an integral role in keeping Tacoma beautiful. Hines also shared his excitement about joining in on this event, meeting volunteers, and potentially adding some new items to his "weirdest litter picked up" list.
District 2 Council Member Sarah Rumbaugh spoke about her love for litter cleanup as it provides an opportunity to connect with the community. She shared her personal experience of organizing cleanups where people come together for a shared purpose and end up discussing important issues, getting to know their neighbors, and building lasting relationships.
