BATAVIA, Ill. - TelAve -- This week, students at Vanguard Gifted Academy joined an international community of learners to participate in World Maths Day, one of the world's largest education events. Hosted by 3P Learning, the event challenges students to test their mathematical fluency through live, 60-second "Mathletics" rounds against peers from across the globe.

While the event features a global leaderboard, the focus for Vanguard students was centered on personal growth and the mastery of "fact fluency." Rather than prioritizing rankings or trophies, the school utilized the platform to encourage students to solve mathematical problems with increasing speed and accuracy.

"World Maths Day is a unique opportunity for our students to see mathematics as a universal language," said a spokesperson for Vanguard Gifted Academy. "The goal wasn't about winning or placing; it was about the discipline of the craft—learning to process numbers accurately under pressure while celebrating the progress they have made throughout the year."

Vanguard saw participation across a wide range of grade levels, from Kindergarten through Year 7. The event served as more than just a numerical exercise; faculty integrated the competition into a multi-disciplinary "Global Citizen" lesson. As students waited for their live matches, they analyzed the national flags appearing on their screens to identify different countries and discussed the mechanics of time zones—explaining why a student in Australia or Singapore might already have thousands of points while the school day in Illinois was just beginning.

Several dedicated students completed the maximum allotment of 20 games, demonstrating remarkable stamina and commitment to their learning goals. By engaging with peers from hundreds of different countries, students gained a firsthand perspective on their place within a global academic community.
