~ Yonkers Early Childhood Academy (YECA) has been recognized for its outstanding achievements in early literacy and family engagement by Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. On November 20, 2025, Mayor Spano joined Superintendent of Schools Aníbal Soler, Jr. to present the School Spotlight Award to Principal Stefanie Felidi and her team at YECA.

The award ceremony was a celebration of the hard work and dedication of the entire school community, including administration, faculty, staff, parents, and students. Mayor Spano praised Principal Felidi's exceptional leadership and the collaborative efforts of everyone involved in making YECA a model for innovation, equity, and family partnership.

Under Principal Felidi's guidance, YECA has made significant progress in two crucial areas: Early Literacy Foundation and Family & Community Engagement. The school has fully implemented district core instructional programming in English Language Arts throughout all grades. This has resulted in remarkable progress on the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT), with kindergarten through grade 2 learners advancing into the expanding and commanding ranges.

YECA also stands out for its strong partnerships with families and community organizations. The school has been recognized for its first-of-its-kind collaboration with Yonkers Special Education PTA (YSEPTA), which supports families of students with disabilities. Additionally, YECA hosts workshops for families on critical topics such as attendance, grade-level achievement strategies, and accessing services through the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).

The school's partnerships extend beyond families to include organizations such as Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS), Early Steps, the Yonkers Department of Public Works (DPW), the Yonkers Fire Department, and the Yonkers Police Department K9 Unit. These collaborations provide essential health, safety, and social-emotional supports for early learners and their families.

Dr. Rosalba Corrado Del Vecchio, President of the Board of Education, commended YECA for its achievements and noted that the school's success aligns with the board's focus on clear goals and accountability. Superintendent of Schools Aníbal Soler, Jr. also praised YECA for its strong gains in early literacy and multilingual learner growth, which align with the Yonkers 2030 Strategic Plan.
