ZLH Enterprises Continues Career Advocacy for Women in Technology

TelAve News/10514197
Pending Shortfall in Technology Talent by the Year 2020 is forecast.

MANALAPAN, N.J. - Jan. 10, 2018 - TelAve -- Teen Closet, a community project sponsored by the Junior League of Elizabeth- Plainfield invited Zina L. Hassel, President of ZLH Enterprises to be a guest speaker at their November seminar. The program was directed toward young women high school students in Union County and provided awareness and exposure to the career opportunities available across a broad spectrum of technology fields.

Since Zina has long been an advocate for Women in Technology and Women Owned Businesses, she was honored to speak at the Teen Empowerment seminar. The event was a workshop designed to promote STEM careers for women in urban environments and offers training and preparation for young women seeking college educations directed toward specific future job opportunities. An important element of the program has been inviting successful women leadership to speak to these young women regarding career opportunities in growing industries. By introducing the students to women who are already successful in STEM careers, these young women meet community role models and mentors providing "real-life" direction and advise on preparing, entering and continuing in STEM fields.

In general, there is a dramatic need for the technology sector to begin encouraging more talent to pursue education and careers in the Information Systems, Computer and Telecommunications fields. According to ISACA, women hold only 1 in 4 technology jobs despite the fact that women comprise 47% of the total US labor force. The report projects that in theyear 2020, the US will need 1.4 Million jobs in technology and computer fields with anticipated available talent filling only 29% of those positions. Without the resources to fill these jobs, the impact on the industry will be problematic considering the accelerated pace of artificial intelligence, robotics and a truly "connected" home, office and globe. "This is a call to action for each of us to advocate for our technology fields and to help create and attract the best and brightest candidates for rewarding careers in Information Systems and Telecommunications", said Zina L. Hassel. President of ZLH Enterprises.
