Age Strong Blog: 30 Years of VietAID in Boston

TelAve News/10844328
~ As a journalist, it is my duty to report on the latest news and developments in our community. Today, I am pleased to share the story of VietAID, a non-profit organization that has been making a positive impact in the Fields Corner Vietnamese community of Dorchester since its establishment in 1994.

VietAID, also known as the Vietnamese American Initiative for Development, has been dedicated to reducing poverty and promoting civic engagement within the Vietnamese community. Over the years, they have achieved this through various initiatives such as developing affordable housing, providing high-quality child care services, supporting small businesses, and creating a community center that serves as a hub for civic and cultural activities.

One notable feature of this community center is the City of Boston's "Age Friendly" bench located outside, which sets a welcoming tone for visitors. Inside the center, people of all ages can find the support they need. In fact, VietAID has received funding from Age Strong's Older Americans Act to help finance their older adult programs. From Monday to Friday between 8:30am to 2:30pm, older adults can enjoy a safe and joyful space where they can learn new skills, socialize with others, and maintain their health.

The center offers various resources such as food assistance and flu shots while also providing opportunities for fun activities like karaoke. With an average of 80 older adults being served daily, VietAID welcomes anyone interested in becoming a member.

This year marks VietAID's 30th anniversary, and Age Strong would like to extend our congratulations on their contributions to the City of Boston. We are proud to call VietAID a valuable community partner. To learn more about VietAID and their services, you can contact them at 617-822-3717 or visit their website. You can also visit them in person at 42 Charles Street in Dorchester. Let us all join hands in celebrating VietAID's achievements and their commitment to making a difference in our community.
