The "Join 1,000 Strong" initiative aims to champion open technologies in education.
BEAVERTON, Ore. - TelAve -- The Apereo Foundation, a leading advocate for open source software in education, today announced the launch of its 2024 Friends of Apereo Membership Campaign. This initiative aims to unite 1,000 new individual members in support of open technologies created by and for educators worldwide.
Open source software, characterized by freely available source code and collaborative development, has become increasingly crucial in education. It allows institutions to customize solutions, reduce costs, and foster innovation. The Apereo Foundation stands at the forefront of this movement, hosting a suite of open source projects specifically designed for academic and research institutions and supporting campus open initiatives with a portfolio of professional services.
"Open source is about more than just saving campuses money," said Patrick Masson, Apereo Foundation Executive Director. "It's about driving innovation through collaboration, ensuring equity through access, and empowering institutions by breaking proprietary lock-in, benefiting students, educators, researchers, and institutions alike."
