Ben Diamond Throws Support Behind Trevor Mallory for City Council

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - TelAve -- Former State Representative Ben Diamond announced today he is endorsing Trevor Mallory for St. Petersburg City Council.

"I've known Trevor Mallory for years," said Diamond, "and I've seen firsthand how much he cares about St. Petersburg and the people who call it home. He's raising his family here, believes deeply in our community, and understands that keeping St. Pete affordable for working families is one of the most important challenges we face."

Also endorsing Mallory today is former St. Petersburg City Councilman Jim Kennedy. Mallory is running to represent District 6 on the St. Petersburg City Council, and Kennedy is his fourth endorser who has served on the City Council. Councilwoman Gina Driscoll, who currently holds the District 6 seat, has endorsed Mallory to succeed her. Karl Nurse and Frank Peterman, who both represented District 6 on the Council in the past, have also selected Mallory from the crowded field. New endorser Jim Kennedy represented District 2 from 2007 to 2018.

"Trevor recognizes the tremendous opportunities ahead for St Pete and is committed to ensuring our city continues to thrive," said Diamond. "He will bring integrity, good judgment, and a genuine commitment to public service to his work on the City Council. I'm proud to support him."

Mallory has recently led the crowded field in both fundraising and endorsements. He has also been endorsed by: County Commissioner Rene Flowers, Gulfport City Councilmembers Marlene Shaw, Nancy Earley, and Jennifer Daunch, as well as former Gulfport City Councilwoman April Thanos. Mallory's community support includes Florida Democratic Black Caucus President Armando Grundy-Gomes, Dr. Basha Jordan, Torrie Jasuwan, Pastor Manuel Sykes, and Pastor G. Gregg Murray.

District 6 covers downtown St. Petersburg, Coquina Key, and parts of South St. Pete. Councilwoman Driscoll is term limited.

Mallory works as the President of Neighborhood Home Solutions, where he helps locals achieve home ownership. He graduated from Lakewood High School and was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays while still in high school. After his time in professional baseball, he returned home to St. Petersburg to build a life rooted in public service and entrepreneurship. He has worked directly in the creation of new affordable housing and has served on boards for the City of St. Petersburg ranging from the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee to the Citizen Redistricting Commission and the Affordable Housing Lot Disposition Committee.

Mallory is a devoted husband to his wife of 20 years, a father of four daughters and a long-time youth mentor. In 2019, he began coaching four-year-old tee ball in a local little league. He now serves as the league's president.
