Bloomington: Taste Your Way Through 15 Apple Varieties at Free Apple Tasting Oct. 3

Bloomington, Ind. ~ Bloomington's annual Apple Tasting will offer visitors a chance to sample more than 15 locally grown apple and pear varieties on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The free event runs from 9 a.m. to noon, or while supplies last, on Fernandez Plaza at the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market, 401 N. Morton St. No registration is required.

The selection includes familiar varieties such as Golden Delicious and Granny Smith, along with heirloom options that are less commonly found in grocery stores. Varieties available to sample include Arkansas Black, Winter Banana, Mutsu, Gold Rush, Rhode Island Greening and Asian pear.

Visitors can compare flavors and textures side by side, whether they're looking for a tart apple for baking or a sweet one for snacking. Many of the featured varieties will also be available to buy from market vendors.

The farmers' market is open Saturdays in October from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Showers Common, next to City Hall.
