~ The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced the closure of the Canterbury Street Bridge in Roslindale to vehicular traffic on Friday, September 12 at 9:00 p.m. The closure is due to findings from a recent bridge inspection and will remain in effect until further notice.
Pedestrian access will still be maintained, but drivers are advised to follow the detour signage in place. The primary detour route will utilize Hyde Park Avenue, Cummins Highway, Rowe Street, Brown Avenue, and Seymour Street. Eastbound traffic will be directed to Seymour Street, while westbound traffic will be rerouted through Hyde Park Avenue.
Drivers should expect delays and are reminded to reduce speed and use caution while traveling through the affected areas.
In South Boston, two major events are set to take place in March 2026 - the annual St. Patrick's Day parade on Sunday, March 15 and the 250th Evacuation Day event on Tuesday, March 17.
The St. Patrick's Day parade is expected to draw large crowds and has its own dedicated page on the city's website for more detailed information and links to further resources.

This event commemorates the 250th anniversary of when Henry Knox transported 59 cannons from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston in 1776.
The event will include a rolling rally type of parade starting from West Sixth Street onto Dorchester Street, then onto Telegraph Street before ending at Thomas Park near Pacific Street. Parking restrictions will be in effect throughout Tuesday on Thomas Park (both sides from Pacific Street to National Street), Dorchester Street (north side from West Fifth Street to West Sixth Street), and West Sixth Street (both sides from F Street to Dorchester Street).
For those attending these events, it is encouraged to use alternative modes of transportation such as walking, biking, or taking public transit. Information on Bluebikes, the regional bike share service, can be found on their website and information on the MBTA can be found online. The MBTA also advises riders to purchase a round-trip ticket for a faster return trip.
Walking is also a great way to move around and enjoy these events. With proper planning and cooperation from all attendees, these events are sure to be successful and enjoyable for everyone involved.
