Boston: Over 100 Car-Free Spooky Streets Celebrations Citywide This Halloween Weekend
TelAve News/10910585
~ Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced an interactive map showing more than 100 streets scheduled to close to traffic during Halloween weekend, where residents and visitors can find trick-or-treating and community events.
The city's "Spooky Streets Map" lists Play Street Permits active from Oct. 30 through Nov. 1, including permits issued to recipients of the Spooky Streets Grant Program. It is available at boston.gov/spooky-streets.
A Play Street Permit allows residents to temporarily close a residential street to through-traffic, according to the city. Wu said the map is intended to help people find places to celebrate and gather with neighbors.
"Throughout neighborhoods across Boston, residents can use the City's Spooky Streets interactive map to find streets closed to traffic for trick-or-treating and community events," Wu said.

The city has streamlined its block party permit application process to speed up approvals and expanded the activities and items allowed without additional permits. These include potluck food, tables and chairs, and tents measuring 10 by 10 feet. A Block Party Planning Guide is also available to residents.
Chris Osgood, interim chief of streets, said the city had made the Play Street permit process faster and easier for neighborhoods.
The city said Elevate Cities provided $25,000 this year to support resident-led events. Through the funding, residents can receive grants of up to $500 to help host Halloween, fall and harvest block parties.
Mohammed Missouri, executive director of the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services, said the events are intended to provide safe programming and bring residents together.
