ORLANDO, Fla. - TelAve -- The vast majority of job applications never make it in front of a human being. Many resumes are rejected by applicant tracking systems (ATS) before a hiring manager ever sees them — often due to simple formatting and keyword errors that have nothing to do with a candidate's qualifications.

Roberts points to five common, fixable mistakes that can prevent resumes from being effectively processed by Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS): using overly designed templates with columns, tables, or graphics that some ATS software may not parse correctly; failing to include relevant keywords and phrases from the job description; using inconsistent job titles, dates, or section headings that can interfere with automated parsing; saving resumes in file formats that may affect readability or text recognition; and submitting the same generic resume for every position instead of tailoring it to the specific role.

"The good news is that none of this is out of a candidate's control," Roberts added. "Once job seekers understand what the system is actually looking for, they can adjust their resume and dramatically improve their odds of getting through — without changing who they are or what they've accomplished."
