EVANSVILLE, Ind. ~ The City of Evansville is gearing up for its third Block-by-Block event of the year, set to take place on Friday, September 11 in the Glenwood/Culver neighborhood. From 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., city services will be brought directly into the neighborhood, providing residents with access to resources and strengthening connections within the community.

This event is part of ongoing efforts to revitalize the neighborhood and improve the overall quality of life for its residents. One of the highlights of the event will be the demolition of the 120th blighted home through Mayor Stephanie Terry's Flight Blight initiative. This initiative focuses on identifying and addressing blighted properties throughout Evansville.

Mayor Terry expressed her belief that everyone deserves to live in a safe, vibrant, and welcoming neighborhood. She stated, "Block-by-Block is about bringing together city departments, residents, volunteers, and community partners to create meaningful, lasting improvements." The goal is to restore pride in neighborhoods and build a stronger Evansville one block at a time.

The cleanup on September 11 will also be held in partnership with United Way of Southwestern Indiana's Day of Caring. This event is known as the largest coordinated volunteer service event in the area and brings together volunteers from Vanderburgh, Spencer, and Warrick counties to support nonprofit organizations. This year's Day of Caring coincides with the 25th anniversary of Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance for those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001.

Since its launch in 2024, Block-by-Block has made significant progress in improving neighborhoods across Evansville. More than 20,000 tons of trash have been collected from seven different neighborhoods, resulting in significant reductions in trash and weed violations.
