City of Spokane, Spokane Public Schools Partner to Expand Childcare Access
TelAve News/10899378
~ As the demand for affordable and high-quality childcare continues to rise in Spokane, the City of Spokane and Spokane Public Schools have joined forces to launch a new pilot program. The goal of this partnership is to increase access to early learning opportunities for young children in the community.
The pilot program will initially be implemented at three locations: Balboa Elementary, Whitman Elementary, and the Garland Center. The City is taking the lead in identifying and partnering with qualified childcare providers to operate services within these spaces.
Mayor Lisa Brown expressed her gratitude towards Dr. Adam Swinyard, Superintendent of Spokane Public Schools, and their team for their willingness to bring this idea to life. She believes that this pilot program is just the first step towards creating a scalable model that will expand access to early learning opportunities across different neighborhoods in the city.

Dr. Swinyard also shared his excitement about this partnership, stating that it has the potential to transform childcare in the community and create a brighter future for generations to come. By providing access to high-quality childcare and early learning close to home, every child will have the support and opportunities they need for a strong start in life.
The pilot program is set to begin in fall 2026, with plans for future expansion into additional schools, neighborhoods, and partnerships with more childcare providers through a formal Request for Proposals (RFP) process. More details about provider selection, implementation timelines, and registration for families will be announced in the coming months.
This collaboration between the City of Spokane and Spokane Public Schools highlights their commitment towards addressing the critical need for affordable childcare in the community. With this pilot program, they hope to create a positive impact on families with young children by providing them with accessible early learning opportunities within their own neighborhoods.
