Colorado Lands Lockheed Martin Expansion, Reinforcing State's Aerospace Leadership
TelAve News/10908680
DENVER ~ Lockheed Martin plans to expand its Space division operations at existing facilities in Douglas and Jefferson counties, a move Colorado officials say could create up to 1,250 jobs over the next four years.
The company announced the expansion at the Site Selector Feedback Dinner during the 2026 Site Selection Conference on Oct. 8, according to a news release from the governor's office. The positions are expected to include cybersecurity and software engineers, technicians and administrative services roles.
Gov. Jared Polis said the investment would support Colorado's aerospace industry and economy. Lt. Gov. Dianne Primavera said the state's education and workforce development efforts help connect the aerospace sector with career opportunities.
Lockheed Martin Space Vice President of Strategy and Business Development Kate Watts said the company's growth reflects Colorado's aerospace ecosystem. The company said the expansion will support its ability to deliver solutions for customers and contribute to local investment and job creation.

Lockheed Martin considered other states for the expansion, the release said. The company has about 125,000 employees worldwide, including more than 12,000 in Colorado.
Douglas County Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Ellie Reynolds described the expansion as an investment in the county and said it aligns with efforts to help established businesses grow. Jefferson County Economic Development Corporation CEO Kami Welch said Lockheed Martin has been part of the county since 1955 and is its largest primary employer.
Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade Executive Director Eve Lieberman and Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation President Raymond H. Gonzales also praised the expansion, citing the state's workforce and aerospace and defense industries.
