(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Fire Department (CFD) companies were called to a commercial structure fire on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. in the 200 block of South Providence Road. Upon arrival, CFD found a single-story commercial structure engulfed in smoke and flames.

The firefighters acted quickly, deploying a hose line to contain the fire and prevent further damage to the interior of the building. As additional companies arrived, they began searching for any potential victims inside the structure.

Due to the extreme heat in the region, incident commanders requested more companies and EMS crews to assist with personnel rotation and hydration. Two firefighters were evaluated for heat-related illnesses, but no civilian injuries were reported.

To combat the intense heat, personnel were rotated to a designated location where they could cool off and focus on staying hydrated. The incident was brought under control within 20 minutes of CFD's arrival.

A total of 11 fire companies, five chief officers, and one safety captain with a team of 42 personnel responded to the scene. Thanks to their swift actions and teamwork, the fire was contained and no major injuries were reported.
