Students at Rajiv Gandhi Educational Institutions Learn to File Nominations, Campaign and Vote, Just Like in a Real Election
OTHER, India - TelAve -- In a unique initiative that has become a yearly tradition at Rajiv Gandhi Educational Institutions, students do not just study democracy, they live it.
Conceived by GV Sri Raj, Vice Chairman of the Rajiv Gandhi Educational Institutions, the annual Student Elections are conducted inside the college campus on the same lines as general elections in India. The aim is simple and powerful: let every young voter and future leader experience the entire electoral process first-hand, long before they cast their first real vote.
"Democracy is not a chapter in a book. It is a habit we must build early. When a student files a nomination, faces scrutiny, presents a manifesto and asks for votes, he or she understands responsibility, accountability and public service. That is the true purpose of this election."
