Mr. Mitchell is being honored for his work as Director & Producer of the new feature-length documentary film The Game That Changed College Basketball.
Founded in 1938, the Pigskin Club of Washington, D.C. stands as one of the nation's most distinguished and historic sports and civic organizations. Renowned for its annual awards banquets, the Club celebrates outstanding achievement in athletics, leadership, and academics. Over the decades, it has honored legendary athletes, coaches, and community figures—placing a strong emphasis on recognizing and elevating African American excellence in sports and public service.

The Game That Changed College Basketball is a feature-length documentary film that tells the amazing story of the historic 1974 ACC Championship game between N.C State and Maryland and how it changed the face of the NCAA Tournament and the game of college basketball forever. Scheduled for world-wide release in 2026, the film features a virtual "Who's Who" of college basketball and sports including David Thompson (Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame), Coach Charles "Lefty" Driesell (Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame), Len Elmore, John Lucas, Tom McMillen, Maurice "Moe" Howard, Billy Packer and John Feinstein.
