Evergreen Surety Launches General Contractor Page

TelAve News/10905650
BOULDER, Colo. - TelAve -- Evergreen Surety has launched a new general contractor bonding page covering how the agency places bonds and improves programs for GCs working in commercial, vertical, heavy highway, civil infrastructure, and tenant improvement construction. Surety is all Evergreen does. No insurance, no financial products. That focus is backed by appointments with 15 surety carriers.

The page walks through the bonds general contractors need, including bid bonds, performance and payment bonds, maintenance bonds, and supply bonds, and explains why working with bonded subcontractors moves replacement risk to the surety carrier.

Another section explains why a contractor's financial reporting is either opening doors or closing them. Where a company sits on the reporting ladder determines its rate, its capacity, and which carriers will look at the account. Most surety carriers require CPA-prepared statements for bonds over $3 million.

The page also frames a construction bond program (https://evergreensurety.com/construction-contra...) as a three-legged stool:
  • Rate. Performance and payment bond rates typically run 0.5% to 3% of the bond limit, and a contractor paying 2% when their profile warrants 0.8% is leaving margin on every bid.
  • Capacity. Measured in single and aggregate limits on a cost-to-complete basis, and built by stairstepping rather than jumping to projects more than twice the size of the largest one completed.
  • Indemnity. The General Indemnity Agreement puts personal assets on the line, and stronger corporate balance sheets can negotiate that requirement down over time.

Evergreen is also an SBA-appointed agency (https://evergreensurety.com/about/), which gives contractors who don't qualify through standard underwriting another path to a bond.
