Family Launches Fundraising Campaign to Restore a Voice to Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor

READING, U.K. - TelAve -- Press Release Family Launches Fundraising Campaign to Restore a Voice to Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor
Reading, United Kingdom, August 2026 –
After more than two and a half years of being paralysed without a way to communicate, Peter Stevenson, a survivor of a severe traumatic brain injury, has shown remarkable progress using a specialised eye tracking communication system that allows him to communicate using the movement of a single eye.
A fundraising campaign has now been launched to help secure continued access to this life-changing technology.
Peter suffered extensive brain injuries following a cycling accident in late 2023. Since then, he has been unable to speak and has lost all voluntary movement, retaining control of only his left eye. According to a recent clinical assessment, the Smartbox eye-gaze communication system currently provides
Peter's only practical means of independent communication. A structured assessment programme conducted during July 2026 demonstrated measurable and clinically significant progress.
During the trial, Peter successfully used the system to communicate for the first time. Recognising words, making selections, building meaningful messages and communicate his wishes independently.
Researchers, nurses and technical specialists involved in the assessment observed increasing consistency and confidence in his use of the technology. One of the most moving moments of the assessment came when Peter independently requested to speak with his father and his son.
For a man who has been unable to communicate for two and a half years since his injury, this represented a major milestone and compelling evidence of intentional communication.

The Smartbox system has been specially configured to track Peter's single functioning eye. Clinical findings conclude that uninterrupted access to the device should be regarded as an essential component of his ongoing rehabilitation, helping him preserve the progress already achieved and continue rebuilding his independence, dignity and quality of life.
Video evidence gathered during the assessment shows Peter successfully selecting words and images, building messages and expressing personal thoughts through the system.
One notable interaction saw Peter respond to the question, "What do you think of this device?" by using the technology to say, "I think it's mine."
To help Peter continue his rehabilitation journey and maintain access to the communication technology that has given him a voice again, supporters are invited to contribute to the fundraising campaign:
Donate Here Help Pete Communicate Again : https://www.gofundme.com/f/lets-help-pete communicate-again
Every contribution will help ensure Peter can continue using the eye tracking communication system that has already transformed his ability to connect with family, carers and healthcare professionals.
