Florida: Governor Ron DeSantis Celebrates Opening of New I-95 at Oslo Road Interchange in Indian River County
TelAve News/10908280
~ The new Interstate 95 interchange at Oslo Road in Indian River County has opened to traffic a year ahead of schedule, Florida officials said.
Gov. Ron DeSantis said the interchange is intended to ease congestion and improve public safety. He said commuters on Oslo Road could see their drive times cut in half and emergency response times for incidents along I-95 reduced by up to 56%.
The project provides direct access to I-95 from the Oslo Road corridor and is the county's first new interchange in more than 50 years, according to the state. Oslo Road was also widened from two lanes to four, and the project added sidewalks and bicycle lanes.
Other work included a new bridge over I-95, intersection lighting, a traffic signal at 66th Avenue and wrong-way vehicle detection technology on the interchange ramps. The project is also expected to provide an additional evacuation route and reduce congestion at existing I-95 connections at Indrio Road and State Road 60, officials said.

Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared W. Perdue said the early opening reflected the state's efforts to speed up project delivery. He said the work would benefit residents and supply-chain partners in the Treasure Coast region.
The interchange is intended to improve access to the Oslo Road and I-95 commercial and industrial area and support freight movement. Oslo Road is a designated truck route serving southern Indian River County, according to the release.
The project also included land acquisition in the interchange's southwest quadrant to create a gopher tortoise habitat. The state described it as the only relocation site for the species in southeast Florida.
