From the Cornfields of Wisconsin to Wall Street West: Singing Rooster Inc. Lands in Jersey City

TelAve News/10901832
JERSEY CITY, N.J. - TelAve -- Jersey City, NJ — After years rooted in the quiet cornfields of Wisconsin, Singing Rooster Inc., a nonprofit social enterprise, has arrived in the fast-moving heart of Jersey City— Wall Street West—with a bold, farmers-first mission: to build markets that put Haitian producers and their products back where they belong—front and center.

In 1949, Haiti was the world's third-largest coffee supplier—a legacy that Singing Rooster has been working to restore since 2010. By expanding access to international markets and investing directly in the land and the people who cultivate it, the organization is helping farmers build sustainable livelihoods through trade. From planting coffee trees on once-barren mountainsides to improving growing techniques and strengthening farmer capacity, Singing Rooster is focused on long-term, ground-up economic growth. The organization also roasts and distributes Haitian coffee in the U.S., connecting consumers directly to farmers who make every cup possible.

"We're not a huge brand, but we are a powerful one," said Molly Nicaise, co-founder and CEO of Singing Rooster Inc. "Haiti gets written off far too often. We're here to say it's a beautiful country with incredible people—and world-class products. This coffee stands with the best of them."

The move to Jersey City follows a period of profound transition after the sudden loss of Nicaise's husband, co-founder, and a driving force behind the organization. According to Singing Rooster's Managing Director, Justin Dena, "People thought we were crazy to settle into upper Communipaw, transforming a greasy, run-down automotive body shop into a coffee roastery and eventual cafe. It's a neighborhood undergoing transformation, but we're used to trailblazing.  Like Haiti, we see the potential." Singing Rooster believes their presence will contribute to new activity, relationships, and opportunity along the corridor.

Given the move to the NYC metro area, Singing Rooster (https://singingrooster.org/wholesale-us/) is actively seeking partnerships with local coffee shops, area roasters who want Haitian green, pop-up market organizers, farmers market leaders, and community advocates to expand access to Haitian-grown products and launch new, community-driven markets. Jersey City's vibrant small-business community and entrepreneurial spirit make it an ideal place to grow those relationships.
