The selection process for the Champions was rigorous and involved a panel of five conservation experts. This year's panelists include JJ Apodaca, Executive Director of the Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy in Asheville, N.C., who was also a 2023 Garden & Gun Champion; Benny Blanco, a 2022 Garden & Gun Champion and advocate for conservation at the policymaking level; Hilary Hutcheson, a Montana-based outfitter and fly-fishing guide; Julie Moore, a Carolina botanist; and Bill Palmer, president and CEO of Tall Timbers in Tallahassee, Fla.
