Seemingly Unrelated tackles the questions around gender for its new season
CAMDEN, U.K. - TelAve -- The hit podcast Seemingly Unrelated returns for its third season and hosts Dr. Andrew Johnstone and Alicia Britt are taking on their most provocative subject yet: gender.
Tackling the question of gender through the unexpected, often startling connections that shaped what we even mean by the word. The social construct assembled from centuries of misreadings, accidental borrowing, political convenience, and the occasional game of telephone played across cultures and millennia.
"Every episode this season starts somewhere you'd never expect and ends somewhere you'd never guess," said Dr. Johnstone. "We trace these threads not to score political points, but to show that the categories we treat as timeless and natural were, almost without exception, invented sometimes deliberately, sometimes by accident, and sometimes because someone considered a crucifix for their fetish ."

Each week, Johnstone and Britt unpack a single thread connecting seemingly unrelated moments in history, science, and culture unravelling assumptions about masculinity, femininity, and the very idea that gender has ever been a settled question.
Season 3 episodes include:
The through-line is that gender has never been one thing. It's been borrowed, bent, repurposed, and reasserted so many times that the idea of a 'traditional' version is almost comical.

Seemingly Unrelated has built a dedicated following by drawing lines between things that appear to have nothing to do with each other, revealing that the connections are not only real but revelatory. Previous seasons explored everything from the power of fables to crush empires and the upsetting history of Hello Kitty's global rise to fame.
Season 3 is available now. New episodes drop weekly.
