The conference, which aims to strengthen economic ties between the two regions, will be the final stop on their trip.

Governor Kemp expressed his excitement for the conference, stating that Japan-based companies employ more Georgians than any other international business community in the state. He also highlighted the deep partnership between Georgia and Japan, which has spanned over 50 years.

Accompanying the Governor and First Lady on this mission is Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson and other senior officials. The delegation has been meeting with existing industries in Osaka and Tokyo to further strengthen business relationships.

Commissioner Wilson emphasized the significance of Georgia's first international office in Japan, which was established in 1973. This office has played a crucial role in developing business and cultural relationships that have shaped Georgia's position as a global gateway for commerce. He also recognized this year's recipient of the Governor George Busbee Award, Georgia-Kai, for their contributions as unofficial ambassadors for Georgia in Japan for over four decades.

Governor Kemp will present this prestigious award to Georgia-Kai on behalf of the State of Georgia during the SEUS-Japan conference. The Governor George Busbee Award recognizes individuals who have shown enduring commitment, dedication, and leadership in advancing strong relationships between Georgia and Japan.

The relationship between Georgia and Japan has been mutually beneficial over the years. The State of Georgia has maintained continuous representation in Japan since 1973, while Japan has had a consular presence in Georgia since 1974. In 2024, the total trade between the two regions exceeded $8.2 billion.

As Governor Kemp and his delegation wrap up their mission in Japan, they look forward to further strengthening the already strong ties between Georgia and Japan. The SEUS-Japan conference will serve as a platform for continued collaboration and success for both regions.
