~ Governor Greg Abbott has announced that $6,302,000 in Funds for Veterans' Assistance (FVA) grants have been awarded to 27 organizations in the Southeast Texas region. This funding is part of the Texas Veterans Commission's (TVC) Grants Across Texas Tour and will provide services to an estimated 4,800 local veterans.

According to Governor Abbott, Texans are forever indebted to the brave veterans who have selflessly served in our nation's military. He believes that these FVA grants will provide crucial services to improve the quality of life for veterans in southeast Texas and the Coastal Bend area. The state of Texas will always honor its veterans, their families, and their service to both the state and the nation.

Chip Osborne, TVC Director of Veteran Services and Army veteran, expressed his gratitude towards the award recipients for serving veterans. He recognized their efforts in making a difference in the lives of those who have served. Osborne also highlighted that Southeast Texas and the Coastal Bend have a strong military community and are home to many veterans. The FVA grant recipients and their services include non-clinical mental health support for After Military Service (Camp SHiEld), financial assistance for Castle Cares Community Ministries and Hope for Warriors, clinical counseling for Cenikor Foundation and Easter Seals of Greater Houston, housing support for Colorado County Habitat for Humanity and Houston Habitat for Humanity, food meal services for Fort Bend Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels & Much Much More, a Veterans Treatment Court program in Galveston County, non-clinical mental health support for Grace After Fire and SoleAna Stables, pro bono legal services from Lone Star Legal Aid, a Veterans Treatment Court program in Montgomery County, financial assistance from Northwest Assistance Ministries and Houston Area Urban League, non-clinical mental health support from Project Zero Alliance and REBOOT Recovery, and homeless veteran support from Santa Maria Hostel and United States Veterans Initiative (U.S. VETS).

In May, TVC Commissioners approved 190 grants totaling more than $40.8 million to 160 organizations across Texas. These grants are expected to provide direct services to over 125,600 veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses throughout the state.

Since 2009, over $400 million in grant funding has been awarded through 1,790 FVA grants. These grants support a wide range of services including emergency financial assistance, transportation, legal services, family support services, home modification, and rental and mortgage assistance.
