Governor Abbott Announces Temple Designated Music Friendly Texas Certified Community

~ Temple, Texas - Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the City of Temple has been designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO). This recognition comes after the city successfully completed the multi-step certification process. The Music Friendly Texas program, which was introduced by TMO in 2016, aims to promote music business-related economic development and job creation in cities and communities across Texas.
In a statement, Governor Abbott congratulated Temple on earning this prestigious designation. He emphasized the importance of music to the state's identity and cultural traditions, and praised Music Friendly Texas Communities for their efforts in attracting and developing the local music industry. According to Governor Abbott, with support from TMO, the Texas music industry provides over 192,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates more than $26 billion in annual economic activity statewide.
Temple Mayor Tim Davis expressed his excitement about becoming a Music Friendly Texas certified community. He stated that Temple is a city that thrives on creativity and this certification will further support local talent and foster a vibrant cultural scene. Mayor Pro Tem Jessica Walker also shared her enthusiasm for this achievement, stating that music has always been a powerful way to bring communities together. She believes that becoming Music Friendly Texas certified will open up new opportunities for collaboration, growth, and celebration in Temple.

The City of Temple received praise from Mack Purifoy, sponsor of the Texas Music Series. Purifoy commended Temple for its diverse variety of great venues that cater to musicians of all genres. He also expressed his excitement about how this certification will benefit musicians, venues, music-supportive businesses, and fans of local live music.
Jamie Hodges, Events & Music Coordinator at Bold Republic Brewing Company in West Temple, also shared her excitement about gaining Music Friendly Texas certification. She believes it will provide valuable opportunities for cultivating a strong sense of connection with their rapidly growing community.
The official Music Friendly Texas Community Certification Ceremony will be held at the City Council Chambers and will include city officials and community leaders. TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist Gini Mascorro will present the designation.
The ceremony, co-hosted by TMO and the City of Temple, will take place on Thursday, November 21 at 5:00PM at the Temple Municipal Building. For those unable to attend in person, the event can be accessed virtually through the city's website.
