Governor Abbott Appoints Howell, Gardner To Texas Board Of Occupational Therapy Examiners

~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the appointment of Chelsea Howell Garcia and the reappointment of Karen Gardner to the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners. Both women will serve on the board for terms that will expire in 2027 and 2029, respectively. The Board is responsible for licensing and regulating occupational therapy services throughout the state of Texas.

Chelsea Howell Garcia, a resident of McAllen, brings a wealth of experience to her new role on the board. She is the owner of EMRoy Express LLC, a company based in Edinburg. In addition to her business ventures, Garcia also serves as vice chair of the McAllen Disability Board and is a member of the Organization of Women Executives. She received her education from Stark College and Seminary.

Karen Gardner, from Brenham, has been reappointed to the board after previously serving as a member. She is the owner of Silver Lining Therapy, LLC, which specializes in community-based occupational therapy activities, hippotherapy, and animal-assisted therapy services. Gardner's impressive resume also includes being an adjunct professor at a community college and a faculty member of the American Hippotherapy Association (AHA). She has also held supervisory and directorial roles at various rehabilitation centers and clinics. Gardner is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Occupational Therapy Association, Texas Occupational Therapy Association, and AHA. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and Physiology from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman's University.
