Governor Abbott Appoints Zeid To Texas Opioid Abatement Fund Council

~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Yasser Zeid, M.D. to the Texas Opioid Abatement Fund Council for a term that will expire on February 1, 2031. The council is responsible for developing a list of approved abatement strategies for the state of Texas, based on both national and existing opioid abatement strategies.

Dr. Zeid, who currently serves as the chief medical officer at Corpus Christi Medical Center in Tyler, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role. He is a fellow of both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is also an active member of several medical associations, including the Texas Medical Association (TMA), American Medical Association, and International College of Surgeons.

Dr. Zeid's impressive background also includes serving as the former chairman of the TMA Committee on Maternal and Perinatal Health. He has previously been appointed by Governor Abbott to serve on the Statewide Health Coordinating Council from 2016 until its sunset in 2025.

Dr. Zeid's qualifications extend beyond his medical education from Ain Shams University and his Master's degrees from The University of Texas at Austin and Trinity University in Health Care Transformation and Healthcare Administration respectively. His dedication to improving healthcare in Texas makes him a valuable addition to the Texas Opioid Abatement Fund Council.
