Governor Greg Abbott has congratulated the City of Texarkana for being designated as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas. This recognition comes after the city successfully completed a multi-step certification process, showcasing their commitment to developing tourism as an economic growth strategy.
In his statement, Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of tourism to both the local and state economies. He stated that travelers to and within Texas generate almost $200 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state. He also encouraged all Texas communities to apply for this certification in order to further grow local tourism and create more job opportunities.
Texarkana is now not only a Film Friendly Texas community, but also a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community. Representative Gary VanDeaver expressed his pride in the city's achievement, stating that Texarkana has always been a welcoming place and this certification only highlights what the community does best.
