~ Sherman, Texas - Governor Greg Abbott was present at the grand opening of Texas Instruments' (TI) new 300 mm semiconductor wafer fabrication facility in Sherman today. The Governor delivered a speech and participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the occasion.

In his remarks, Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of semiconductors in shaping the future, stating that they are essential for building space and artificial intelligence infrastructure. He also highlighted the significance of TI's investment in Texas, which is expected to bring in $40 billion over the next few decades and provide employment opportunities for thousands of Texans.

"Today's announcement by Texas Instruments helps Texas to expand our No. 1 ranking and helps lead the semiconductor manufacturing boom we have here in Texas," said Governor Abbott. "With help from Texas Instruments, Texas will remain the home for cutting edge semiconductor manufacturing and the home of more job opportunities than any other state in the United States of America."

The Governor was joined by TI president and CEO Haviv Ilan, as well as state and local officials including Senator Brent Hagenbuch, Representative Shelley Luther, and Sherman Mayor Shawn Teamann.

Texas Instruments, headquartered in Dallas, has a long history with the state. It is where the world's first commercial silicon transistor was created in 1954, followed by Jack Kilby's invention of the integrated circuit in 1958. Together, TI and Texas have played a crucial role in shaping modern technology.

During his speech, Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude to TI for choosing Texas as the location for their advanced 300mm fab. He also highlighted that Texas is currently leading the nation in semiconductor manufacturing capacity and is ranked as the top state for semiconductors.
