In July of this year, Governor Polis welcomed a delegation from Yamagata, Colorado's first sister state. The delegation included Yamagata Prefecture Governor Mieko Yoshimura. This relationship was established in 1986 when Colorado's population was around 3.2 million people. Today, that number has more than doubled with over six million people calling Colorado home.
In 2023, Governor Polis, along with officials from the Office of Economic Development and International Trade's Global Business Development division, led a delegation of businesses and universities on a visit to Japan to explore investment opportunities.
