Harrisburg Private School Launches Partnership, Offers Unlimited Data, Talk, Text Free to Families
TelAve News/10551461
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Sept. 3, 2018 - TelAve -- Bright Futures Learning Centers, Inc. has served the greater Harrisburg area for 30 years operating child care centers and now a private school. Through a new partnership the company is now helping families of local school districts save thousands on cellular bills. Bright Futures has partnered with New York City based startup FreeMii.com —pronounced "Free-Me"— to give families free data, talk and text on their mobile device. For a single upfront purchase of $99, parents, families, and even professionals can enjoy virtually unlimited mobile connectivity with no monthly bills and no annual fees. Thanks to Bright Futures, FreeMii is now extending the offer to families and students in our area.
The partnership formed from discoveries made during a study of Harrisburg City. "We regularly perform assessments of local communities to determine the major unmet needs to better serve our families" stated David Barkley, Bright Futures' President. "Three years ago, we identified the need for reliable internet access in the home for many of the families we serve and the families with children in the local school districts." Barkley also described how limited and inconsistent access leads to poor academic performance. "In the education field, we call this the "Homework Gap" or "Digital Divide" where the lack of resources jeopardizes student success and leads to negative outcomes. When a student fails in the classroom he/she eventually exhibits behavioral or social-emotional issues."

While Bright Futures hopes parents and families of local districts will take advantage of the opportunity to have connectivity at no cost, the offering actually extends to all Pennsylvanians and nationwide. The cellular provider, FreeMii, supports the four biggest U.S. carriers. If you purchase an order directly from the site, you will be shipped a network compatible SIM card to activate. The normal upfront purchase for membership and activation is $149 as shown on FreeMii.com but with the Labor Day promotion you can purchase at the Bright Futures Main Campus and get $50 discount. You can also purchase various phone models at a reduced cost at the school.
FreeMii's key difference from other cellular providers is the membership community. After signup and activation, all members join the FreeMii community and can directly interact with other members. When you sign up you can choose to get a new phone and a new number, keep your old phone and get a new number, or even keep your current phone and your current phone number. After activation, members are never billed or charged for any monthly service. The only plan FreeMii offers is unlimited data, talk, and text for $0/month after activation. The data restrictions may cap speeds at 22-25 gigs of data every month for heavy users but is more than enough for most members.
Bright Futures' Executive Director, Shayla Mitchell, explains "Our service area for education has always been local including Harrisburg, Steelton, Central Dauphin, Swatara, Middletown and Susquehanna. We also serve families from West Shore across Cumberland and Perry counties." Mitchell, who manages the school of almost 200 mainly preschool students, believes this partnership can be a game changer. "FreeMii is an incredible opportunity for our families. We understand our community has a number of tremendous needs and we know by affording internet access completely free, we will be take the first major step toward changing Central PA for the better."
