January 5, 2026 ~ Houston Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Board Hosts Annual Holiday Reception at Rice University
The Houston Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Board (MHAB) held its annual holiday reception on December 19 at Rice University's Cohen House. The event brought together community leaders, elected officials, board members, and partners to celebrate the accomplishments of the city's Hispanic community over the past year.
The evening began with remarks from MHAB leadership, who highlighted the strong relationship between the board and Mayor John Whitmire. Co-chair Roland Garcia praised the mayor for his dedication to the city and its diverse communities, stating that he has done more in his first year than most mayors do in an entire term.
The program also recognized numerous elected and appointed officials, showcasing the growing representation and leadership of Hispanics across city and county institutions. In his keynote address, Mayor Whitmire reflected on Houston's growth and the evolving role of the Hispanic community in shaping its future. He emphasized the importance of collaboration across local, state, and federal levels and highlighted recent investments in public safety, infrastructure, parks, transportation, and preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

The mayor also acknowledged Houston's diversity as one of its greatest strengths and responsibilities. He stated that everyone present at the reception represents the future of Houston and expressed his gratitude for their support in his role as mayor.
