Icla da Silva Foundation Highlights Urgent Need for Support for Transplant Patients
TelAve News/10882861
A new video from the Icla da Silva Foundation reveals the financial and emotional barriers that prevent many patients from accessing a bone marrow transplant and how donor support brings relief.
DALLAS - TelAve -- A bone marrow transplant is often a patient's only chance of survival, yet for thousands of families, the journey to transplant is threatened just as treatment begins. The Icla da Silva Foundation, one of the few nonprofits focused exclusively on supporting bone marrow transplant patients, has released a new video that illustrates the harsh realities families face and the critical role community support plays in making treatment possible.
While medical teams work to save lives, patients and their loved ones confront mounting costs that their insurance does not cover. Travel back and forth to the transplant center, temporary housing near the hospital, meals during months of intensive treatment, and long periods away from work place enormous strain on families who are already overwhelmed by a life-altering diagnosis. For many, these expenses become a barrier to receiving the transplant they urgently need.

"These families are facing the fight of their lives," said Airam da Silva, President of the Icla da Silva Foundation. "They are exhausted, and often running out of resources at the exact moment when they need stability the most. Our role is simple but essential. We remove the barriers standing between a patient and their chance at a cure. No one should lose their opportunity to survive because of financial hardship."
The Foundation provides financial assistance, emotional support, and hands-on guidance, with a particular focus on underserved communities that often have the fewest resources and the greatest need. The newly released video shares the patient experience and shows how donor generosity makes hope possible when families feel out of options.
