~ Idaho Falls, ID - A tragic accident occurred this morning at the intersection of East Anderson Street and North Holmes Avenue, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist. The Idaho Falls Police Department responded to a call at 10:31 am on August 23, 2026, reporting a collision between a motorcycle and another vehicle. Witnesses at the scene informed dispatch that the motorcyclist was severely injured and that the driver of the other vehicle had fled.

Upon arrival, officers and EMS found an adult male victim who had been riding the motorcycle. A witness was providing aid to the victim while EMS took over medical care and transported him to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Despite their best efforts, as well as those of hospital staff, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Witnesses provided descriptions of the suspect vehicle, which aided in identifying and locating it with the help of law enforcement resources. The driver, identified as 18-year-old Daniel Hartman, was taken into custody shortly after noon today. He has been charged with Vehicular Manslaughter and Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident, both felonies.

According to available information, the motorcyclist was stopped at a red light on Holmes Avenue when he was struck by Hartman's vehicle. The suspect then continued through the intersection before fleeing from the scene.

The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time to allow for proper notification of next of kin and out of respect for their privacy. The Idaho Falls Police Department would like to express their gratitude to community members who called 911 immediately, provided aid to the victim, and provided crucial information about the suspect vehicle that aided in their investigation. They would also like to thank the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office for their assistance in responding to and investigating this incident.

This is not an isolated incident in Idaho Falls as there have been several similar accidents reported in recent months. On July 29, 2026, a hit-and-run accident resulted in the death of a pedestrian. On July 08, 2026, a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a truck. On June 05, 2026, another hit-and-run accident claimed the life of a cyclist. And on April 27, 2026, a driver was charged with Vehicular Manslaughter after causing a fatal crash. The Idaho Falls Police Department urges drivers to be cautious and responsible on the roads to prevent such tragedies from occurring.
