Boise, Idaho ~ Idaho's General Fund revenue exceeded the state's forecast by $90.3 million, or 6.8%, in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, according to the September revenue report released by the state.

Gov. Brad Little said the results reflect economic strength but urged continued caution in spending. He said strong income tax withholding indicates Idahoans are working and businesses are hiring, while emphasizing that spending decisions should be based on revenue the state can sustain.

September revenue was $39 million above forecast, led by individual income tax collections. Those collections were 18.3% above forecast year to date, with withholding revenue up 20% in the first quarter compared with the same period a year earlier. The state reported withholding growth of 2.8% in fiscal 2026 and 5.9% in fiscal 2025.

Sales tax collections totaled $215.1 million in September and $617.4 million for the quarter. Online marketplace sales grew 23.4% compared with the first quarter of the previous year, according to the report.

Revenue trends varied by tax category. Corporate income tax collections were $10.2 million, or 7.9%, below forecast, while sales tax collections were slightly below forecast year to date.

The state said it is aligning ongoing budget commitments with sustainable revenue expectations while preserving resources for priorities including public schools, transportation, infrastructure, public safety and services for families. Officials will continue monitoring revenue and economic conditions as the fiscal year progresses.

The September report is the final monthly revenue report scheduled for release before the Nov. 2 election.
