Idaho jobs poised to grow more than four times faster than national average
TelAve News/10908684
Boise, Idaho ~ Idaho employment is projected to grow by 1.3% annually through 2034, more than four times the national forecast of about 0.3%, according to long-term projections released by the Idaho Department of Labor.
The department estimates the state will have 1,028,760 jobs by 2034. The projections cover 2024 to 2034 and reflect expected employment growth across occupations and industries.
Gov. Brad Little said the forecast indicates Idaho's economy is positioned for continued opportunity. He said the state has exceeded the national employment growth rate for 11 consecutive years and called for investment in education, workforce training and infrastructure to prepare for future growth. Little also cited programs such as LAUNCH and apprenticeships.
The department said Idaho's projected growth is partly tied to population gains, which are expected to drive demand in areas including home construction, health care and consumer services.

Construction and Extraction is projected to add more than 13,000 jobs by 2034, while Healthcare Support is expected to add 12,500, according to the department. The Healthcare and Social Assistance industry is forecast to gain 34,000 jobs and grow at an annual rate of 2.4%, which the department attributed in part to the state's aging population.
Construction employment is projected to increase by 14,700 jobs. The department said population growth and demand for new buildings are contributing factors.
The projections also point to a shift in job growth from traditional retail toward transportation and warehousing, which includes fulfillment centers and delivery services. Retail Trade is forecast to grow by 0.7% annually, compared with 1.6% for Transportation and Warehousing.
Manufacturing is expected to add about 8,500 jobs by 2034. Food Manufacturing is projected to account for 3,900 of those jobs, while Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing is expected to add 1,250, the department said.
