Juneau: 2026 Regular Municipal Election Final Results Certified

TelAve News/10909673
~ Juneau's Canvass Review Board completed its review of the Oct. 6 municipal election on Oct. 20, and the Election Official has certified the final results, the City and Borough of Juneau said.

Paul Roy Kelly won a second full three-year term in the areawide Assembly race. Mila Cosgrove and Joyce M. Niven were elected to their first three-year terms representing Assembly Districts 1 and 2, respectively. Board of Education members Britteny Cioni-Haywood and David Noon were re-elected to three-year terms.

Voters approved Proposition A, renewing the temporary 3% areawide sales tax for five years, from July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2032. The measure received 7,840 yes votes and 1,946 no votes. The renewal continues the Assembly's intended allocation of the tax revenue, according to the city.

Proposition B, a citizen initiative to raise the property tax rate cap from 9 mills to 12 mills, failed. It received 5,208 no votes and 4,715 yes votes. The proposal would have raised the maximum allowable rate but would not itself have increased the rate, which the Assembly sets annually. The city said additional millage would be allowed for general obligation debt, while rates above the cap for other purposes would require voter approval.

Voters also approved Proposition C, a citizen initiative establishing a 1% seasonal sales tax from April 1 through Sept. 30 to help fund indoor and outdoor recreation. It passed with 5,702 yes votes and 4,274 no votes. The city said the measure does not change existing sales tax exemptions. It is scheduled to take effect Nov. 19, 2026, with the first collection set for April 1, 2027. The CBJ Finance Department will assist merchants with the change.

The city said 10,027 people voted in the election. A more detailed report with election statistics is scheduled for the Assembly Reorganizational Meeting on Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. in Assembly Chambers and online via Zoom.

Official results are posted on the CBJ Elections webpage.
