Juneau: Parks & Recreation's Free Month of Play Kicks Off July 10

~ Juneau, Alaska - The City and Borough of Juneau's Parks & Recreation department is excited to announce their upcoming Month of Play event, a month-long celebration of in-person and Do-It-Yourself fun. From Friday, July 10 to Wednesday, August 5, residents and visitors alike can participate in a variety of activities and events for free while also having the chance to win exciting prizes.
Participants can earn free admission to Parks & Recreation facilities by completing activities and attending in-person events. Each event attended will also earn an entry ticket for the Month of Play drawing, where participants have the opportunity to win prizes such as pool passes, private rentals at Treadwell Arena and Dimond Park Field House, free youth sports registration, and more. The prize drawing will take place on August 5 after all activities have concluded.
This year's Month of Play events include a Dive-in Movie featuring Shark Tale (PG) at Augustus G. Brown Pool on July 10 at 6:30 p.m., free equipment rental from July 10 to 31, a food drive at the Zach Gordon Youth Center from July 13 to 18, a Goosechase Scavenger Hunt from July 14 to August 2, and a Free Field House Day on July 15. Other events include Trucks N' Stuff at Dimond Park on July 18 from 1 to 5 p.m., StoryPath at Overstreet Park from July 20 to August 2, a Free Swim at Dimond Park Aquatic Center on July 25 from12:30 to2 p.m. and again from2:30to4 p.m., Family Skate at Treadwell Arena on July31from5to6:30p.m., Disco Skate at Treadwell Arena on July31from7to8:30p.m., Movie in the Park featuring Zootopia (PG) at Dimond Park Field House on August 1 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., and Building with Boxes at the Douglas Library on August 2 from 1 to 4 p.m.

For those who may need sensory-friendly alternatives, Trucks N' Stuff will have a quiet hour from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18 at Dimond Park with no horns or sirens. The sensory-friendly showing of Zootopia (PG) will take place on Saturday, August 1 at the Dimond Park Field House at 4 p.m. During this showing, some lights will remain on and the volume will be lowered with subtitles available.
