Las Vegas Filmmaker Trina Colon's Debut Feature, " Sunny Yard," Wins Best In Fest
TelAve News/10899992
Award-Winning Dark Comedy Showcases Las Vegas Talent and Announces the Arrival of a Bold New Filmmaking Voice
LAS VEGAS - TelAve -- Las Vegas filmmaker Trina Colon is earning national and international recognition for her debut feature film, Sunny Yard. The award-winning dark comedy recently earned nominations for Best Feature and Best Actress for Colon's lead performance at The North Film Festival in New York City, where it also received an Honorable Mention Award. Building on that momentum, Sunny Yard went on to capture the festival's highest honor, Best in Fest, at the Hispanic International Film Festival at the Cinema Art Theater in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
Produced by Colon's independent production company, World of Difference, Sunny Yard has become a festival favorite, collecting awards, nominations, and selections from festivals across North America, Europe, and Asia.
Written, directed, produced, and starring Colon, Sunny Yard follows a stubborn junkyard owner whose life begins to unravel when a string of petty thefts threatens her livelihood. What starts as a fight to save her business becomes a funny, heartfelt, and occasionally disastrous reckoning with family, identity, and survival.
Part dark comedy, part working-class love story, and part glorious train wreck, Sunny Yard embraces the chaos of being human.

Audience member Aaron Penney summed it up best:
"Sunny Yard is an endearing comedy about family hardships and next chapters packaged into gift-wrapped chaos and madness. I loved every second."
What makes the film's growing success especially remarkable is that Sunny Yard is Colon's first narrative feature film.
Shot on a micro-budget and fueled by determination, creativity, and a healthy amount of duct tape, the film features a cast drawn from Las Vegas' entertainment community, including comedians, improvisers, actors, and Las Vegas Strip talent.
"We filled a junkyard with comedians, improvisers, Vegas entertainers, and a whole lot of bad decisions," said Colon. "Somehow, it turned into an award-winning movie."
The film's growing list of honors includes:
Awards
Nominations
Official Selections & Additional Recognition
For Colon, the success of Sunny Yard represents more than festival recognition. It highlights the depth of talent thriving in Las Vegas and demonstrates that meaningful independent cinema can emerge far beyond traditional filmmaking hubs.
