Los Angeles wildfire survivors can apply for federal aid today, new website launched to help Californians

~ Los Angeles, CA - In the wake of the devastating wildfires that have ravaged Los Angeles County, Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that survivors can now apply for federal assistance. This announcement comes as the state launches a new website, CA.gov/LAfires, to provide support and resources for those affected by the disaster.
Governor Newsom expressed his commitment to supporting Californians impacted by the unprecedented fires, stating, "To the thousands of Californians who are impacted by these unprecedented fires, know that we have your back." He also thanked President Joe Biden for swiftly declaring a Major Disaster and making federal aid available to those in need.
The new website, CA.gov/LAfires, serves as a hub for information and resources from state, local, and federal government agencies. It provides details on how to apply for federal assistance and offers information in over 40 languages. The site also includes printable materials for distribution.

Survivors can apply for disaster assistance through various channels including online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-3362, or using the FEMA smartphone application. Assistance is available in multiple languages and accommodations can be made for those using relay services.
In addition to providing aid to survivors, California has mobilized over 12,000 personnel including firefighters and National Guard members to combat the ongoing fires. The state has also deployed over 1,660 pieces of firefighting equipment such as engines and aircrafts.
Governor Newsom declared a state of emergency on Tuesday and issued an executive order to support affected communities. President Biden quickly approved a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration on Wednesday at Governor Newsom's request. The state continues to receive federal assistance in fighting the Hurst, Eaton, and Palisades Fires.

As recovery efforts continue in Los Angeles County, disaster recovery centers will be activated with support from local, state, federal, and non-profit agencies. These centers will provide resources and support for individuals and businesses that have suffered losses or damages due to the wildfires.
In addition to addressing the immediate needs of those affected, Governor Newsom's 2025-26 budget proposal includes increased savings to the state's reserves while maintaining investments in critical priorities such as wildfire prevention, public safety, and housing. The Governor has also deployed the California National Guard to assist with firefighting efforts and ensure that looting will not be tolerated.
The Governor also expressed his condolences for the death of Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Timothy Corlew, stating, "It is with profound sadness that Jennifer and I extend our condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Corlew."
