The drop ~ As the Labor Day holiday approaches, the City of Madison's Streets Division has announced changes to their trash and recycling collection schedule. In observance of the holiday, there will be no trash, recycling, brush, or large item collection on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Residents who typically have their trash and recycling collected on Mondays are advised to place their carts out for emptying by 6:30am on Tuesday, September 8. The same goes for those with Tuesday collection days - carts should be placed out by 6:30am on September 8 to ensure pickup. The Streets Division reminds residents that setting out carts after 6:30am may result in a missed collection opportunity.

To check if the holiday will affect your collection day, residents can refer to their collection schedule which can be downloaded from the Streets Division's website or requested to be mailed to them by contacting their offices.

For those with large items that need to be collected, the Streets Division advises scheduling a pickup through their website or by contacting their offices. Due to the holiday, large item collection will begin on Tuesday, September 8 for residents who submitted work orders on Sunday, September 6. It is important to note that crews do not collect items on Sundays or city-observed holidays.

The City of Madison's drop-off sites will also be closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day and will resume normal operating hours on Tuesday. Residents are encouraged to check the Streets Division's website for locations and hours before bringing materials to a drop-off site.

In addition, all Streets Division offices will be closed for the holiday and will reopen on Tuesday.
