MADISON, WI ~ Madison Public Library's Bubbler is set to host an opening reception on Thursday, September 3 from 4-6pm for a new exhibition in the Diane Endres-Ballweg Gallery on the 3rd floor of Central Library. Titled "Recollection: The Stories That Stay," the exhibition will feature a powerful collection of quilts created by an intergenerational group of women in Madison known as the Memory Collectors Storytelling Project (MCSP).

This will be the first exhibition in MCSP's history to showcase work from all of its members. The organization's goal is to bring together diverse voices and experiences through the art of quilting.

One of the featured pieces in the exhibition is "One Legacy Quilt," a collaborative work that includes unique painted portraits by member Alicia Rheal, who is also the Creators Cottage Artist-in-Residence. Rheal worked closely with each member to gather significant fabrics, share stories, and envision how they want to depict their own living legacy.

Another highlight is "One Story Quilt," a textile piece that combines fabric, imagery, and stitching to convey personal narratives, memories, or historical events - both real and imagined.

After its display at Central Library, "Recollection" will travel to various galleries, community spaces, and museums across the Midwest and beyond. The intention is for this powerful exhibition to reach and impact diverse audiences. The striking image credit for this exhibition goes to Jim Escalante.
