MapMySound Relaunches With Instant Recording and Sound Route Mapping

Rebuilt iOS and Android app from Dallas sound designer Duriye Nasuhoglu removes the sign-up wall, traces the path of every recording, and was tested on a public sound walk through Aegina, Greece.
DALLAS - TelAve -- MapMySound, the app for recording, analyzing and mapping real-world soundscapes, today relaunched on iOS and Android with a rebuilt experience. Anyone can now press record without creating an account; the recording is saved to their profile when they sign up. A new Sound Route feature traces the path a user walked while recording, turning a sound into a journey on the map.
On September 26, the app's founder led a free public sound walk in Aegina, Greece. Seven participants walked the town's main boulevard and marina on a rainy evening, recording its sounds as they went. "Life is better unmuted," said participant Kathrin Wintermeyer.
"As a musician, I've always thought of place in terms of sound first," said Duriye Nasuhoglu, founder of MapMySound. "The idea grew out of an acoustic ecology project, when I recorded my neighborhood for 24 hours and analyzed it by hand. I wanted a simpler way for anyone to capture, see and share the sounds around them."
