Maryland: PUBLIC NOTICE: Unscheduled Mosquito Control Activity in Prince George's County Planned for July 19

TelAve News/10901605
ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 17, 2026) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. This decision comes in cooperation with the Prince George's County Health Department.

On Sunday, July 19, 2026, MDA will conduct Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying in the evening near Cottage City, Brentwood, Hyattsville, Mt. Rainier and North Brentwood. The spraying will take place after 9:00 p.m. ET and will be rescheduled in case of inclement weather. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended.

The MDA Mosquito Control Program will use a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health. However, as a precautionary measure, MDA recommends avoiding outdoor activities during spraying.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA advises residents to take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long, loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, using insect repellents according to product labels, avoiding mosquito-infested areas during peak activity times (between dusk and dawn), installing and maintaining window and door screens at home and regularly cleaning bird baths and pet food/water bowls. It is also recommended to remove or empty any water-holding containers.

Residents can find routine spray program schedules by county on the program's website or contact MDA's Mosquito Control Program at (410) 841-5870 with any questions or concerns.
