Maryland: PUBLIC NOTICE: Unscheduled Mosquito Control Activity in Prince George's County Planned for August 26
TelAve News/10904631
ANNAPOLIS, MD (August 25, 2026) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. In cooperation with the Prince George's County Health Department, the MDA will be conducting Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying in the Lake Arbor community on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
The spraying will take place after 9:00 p.m. ET and will cover the following streets: Kettering Drive, Campus Way North & South, and Joyceton Drive. In case of inclement weather, the spraying will be rescheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2026. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended.
According to MDA officials, the spray program will use a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs. This solution is deemed safe for human health but as a precautionary measure, MDA recommends avoiding outdoor activities during spraying.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA advises residents to take necessary precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long and loose-fitting clothing in light colors, using insect repellents according to product labels, avoiding mosquito-infested areas during peak activity times (dusk and dawn), and regularly cleaning bird baths and pet food/water bowls.
Residents are also encouraged to remove or empty any water-holding containers on their property as these can serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The routine spray program schedules for each county can be found on MDA's website and any questions or concerns can be directed to their Mosquito Control Program at (410) 841-5870.
With this expanded mosquito control effort, MDA hopes to mitigate any potential risks of mosquito-borne diseases in the Lake Arbor community and ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.
