Mesa City Council Issues Notice of Intent to Adjust Utility Rates

TelAve News/10908296
~ Mesa City Council has issued a notice of intent to adjust utility rates, opening a 60-day period for residents and businesses to review the proposal and provide feedback.

Under the proposal, most Mesa households would pay less than $6 more per month on their utility bills, the city said. Mesa reviews rates annually, saying the process allows for smaller, predictable changes rather than larger increases.

The city said its proposed approach aims to maintain reliable and affordable utilities, preserve reserve funds and distribute costs equitably between residential and non-residential customers.

Mesa also said its fiscal 2026-27 comparison of property taxes, city sales tax, solid waste, water and wastewater costs placed it third-lowest among the Valley cities included in the comparison.

The council is expected to consider the proposed adjustments in December, with a final vote scheduled for Dec. 8. If approved, the new rates would take effect Feb. 1, 2027.

Details about the proposal and its potential impact on customers are available at mesaaz.gov/Government/Management-Budget/Utility-Rates.
