Mesa: Grand Opening for Phase 2 of Signal Butte Park
TelAve News/10910763
~ Mesa will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the second phase of Signal Butte Park on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. The event will take place at 3355 S. Signal Butte Road and is open to the public.
The approximately 43-acre addition includes 1.5 miles of LED-lighted walking trails, three ramadas, biking flow trails, a tot track and a BMX pump track. Pillar Design Studios, which designed the pump track, describes it as the largest asphalt pump track in Arizona.
The expansion is funded by a General Obligation Bond approved by Mesa voters in 2018. It is designed to maintain and enhance the desert landscape, according to the city. A pedestrian bridge over a wash will connect the new section with the first phase, which opened in January 2020 and includes a custom-made playground, four ramadas and a one-mile lighted asphalt walking loop.

"This is a great addition to an already outstanding park and another example of how we continue to Elevate Mesa," Mayor Mark Freeman said. He thanked voters for supporting the improvements and investing in city parks and amenities.
Vice Mayor Scott Somers said the expansion would give families and outdoor enthusiasts more opportunities to spend time outdoors as the community grows.
After the ceremony, professional BMX riders are scheduled to demonstrate on the pump track, the middle of the park's three tracks. The bike and tot tracks will officially open to the public, along with the walking loops connecting the two park phases.
Organizers say water and snacks will be provided, and Chick-fil-A will offer free sandwiches while supplies last. Project contractor Valley Rain will raffle a bike and helmet, while subcontractor Sierra Signs is donating four helmets. City departments and Pillar Design Studios will also offer giveaways while supplies last.
Motorized vehicles, electric bikes, electric scooters and radio-controlled cars are not allowed on the bike tracks.
