Midwest Pond Features Opens Fall Pond Installation Scheduling Across Chicagoland
TelAve News/10906308
Homeowners planning new koi, ecosystem and garden ponds are scheduling site evaluations and custom pond construction projects during the early-fall installation period.
CHICAGO - TelAve -- Midwest Pond Features & Landscape is scheduling fall pond installation projects for homeowners, businesses and property managers throughout Chicagoland.
The Glen Ellyn based contractor designs and installs koi ponds, ecosystem ponds, garden ponds and custom water features for residential and commercial properties.
September gives many property owners an opportunity to move forward with construction after evaluating how they used their outdoor spaces during summer. Early fall also allows pond projects to begin before colder weather and winter ground conditions affect construction schedules.
Each project starts with a site evaluation.
The company reviews available space, property access, grade, drainage, nearby trees, sunlight, patios, walkways and primary viewing areas. These factors influence the pond's location, size, depth and overall design.

A koi pond often requires different circulation, aeration and filtration planning than a smaller decorative garden pond. An ecosystem pond might place greater emphasis on aquatic plants, rockwork, biological filtration and natural integration with the surrounding landscape.
Pond construction involves more than excavation and liner installation.
A complete system might include underlayment, liner, pumps, plumbing, skimmers, mechanical filtration, biological filtration, rock, gravel, waterfalls, streams and aeration equipment.
Pump and filtration selection depend on pond size, fish plans, debris levels and required water movement.
Mechanical filtration helps capture leaves and other debris before material settles in the pond. Biological filtration supports beneficial bacteria involved in processing organic waste and nutrients.
For koi ponds, the system also needs enough circulation and filtration to support fish over time.
Construction generally moves from layout and excavation to underlayment, liner, plumbing, equipment installation, rockwork and waterfall construction. The pond is then filled and tested.

Midwest Pond Features & Landscape checks water flow, pump operation, filtration and plumbing connections before making final adjustments.
Future maintenance access is also considered during installation.
Pumps, skimmers and filters need periodic inspection and cleaning. Positioning equipment where technicians and owners have reasonable access helps simplify future service.
Fall projects also require seasonal planning.
Aquatic plants and fish introduction depend on weather, water temperature and system readiness. Some installations completed later in the season might have planting or fish related steps finished during a more suitable period.
The company also evaluates surrounding drainage so runoff from lawns, roofs or neighboring areas does not enter the pond.
The company serves Cook, DuPage, DeKalb, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will counties.
