NDIS Never Funds Short-Term Accommodation That Solely Purposes to Holidays
TelAve News/10804196
MELBOURNE, Australia - TelAve -- In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities, Short Term Accommodation (STA) has emerged as a lifeline providing essential support and accommodation, enabling individuals to temporarily escape their everyday home environments. This innovative program, now gaining widespread attention, offers funding for care in alternative settings for up to 14 days at a time, either alone or with others.
STA, a key funding initiative under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), is specifically tailored to address disability-related needs such as respite or skill development. It's crucial to remember that STA is not intended for vacations. The funding is a game-changer for those seeking to explore new experiences and build new relationships while ensuring continuity of care.
STA opens doors to a multitude of benefits:
This program proves to be indispensable for individuals whose regular support network is temporarily unavailable, ensuring a seamless continuum of care during short-term challenges.

Comprehensive STA services include personal care, accommodation, meals, and agreed-upon activities. Funding generally covers up to 28 days of STA per year, which can be flexibly utilized in blocks of up to 14 days at a time or one weekend each month. While funding is usually allocated based on group pricing, individual support can be provided if required due to a disability.
Individuals already receiving Core budget funding can use it to access STA or other supports aligned with their goals and plans.
To determine eligibility and explore options for short-term out-of-home care, consult with your Support Coordinator, or Local Area Coordinator.
NDIS funding for STA may be considered in cases where family or informal support cannot suffice for an extended duration, when future support needs are expected to decrease when it contributes to maintaining functional ability, enhances independence, and enables participation in various activities.
However, it's essential to understand that NDIS STA funding does not cover situations where family or informal support can suffice for an extended period, cases where projected future support needs might decrease, instances where the goal is to maintain functional ability, scenarios where the aim is to increase independence, or activities unrelated to disability.

Please note that long-term accommodation costs and accommodations unrelated to disability, such as waiting for home modifications, are not covered by NDIS STA funding.
